News Conference

(Miami, FL September 2, 2016) -

City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Commissioner Ken Russell have partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and NBA Champion Dwyane Wade to host the D. Wade CommUNITY Bike Ride  Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Regatta Park in Coconut Grove.

Join us for a news conference on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at noon to provide details about the ride and another event leading up to the ride.

"It's great to get kids outdoors interacting with positive role models," said Commissioner Ken Russell. "I can't wait to ride through Coconut Grove with Dwyane Wade."

The City of Miami has one of the highest concentrations of cyclists using roads for fitness, recreation and commuting.  The event will promote bicycle safety and bicycling as a healthy alternative mode of transportation.

"Bicycles play an important role in providing transportation to work, to school, and other short trips" said Jim Wolfe, FDOT District Six Secretary. "In order to have a safe transportation system for everyone, including bicyclists and pedestrians, the department has adopted a Complete Streets initiative that promotes connectivity and allows all road users to share the road safely."
