City of Miami Opens New Community Center
at West End Park

(Miami, FL September 9, 2016) - On Monday, September 12 at 4:00 p.m., the City of Miami will open the new West End Park Community Center, located at 6030 S.W. 2nd Street.

City officials welcome the public to come participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the newly constructed 10,800 square foot community building and courtyard.

"As I initially said when we broke ground on this project, every community deserves a space where its residents can congregate with their families and neighbors, and where neighborhood children have the opportunity to learn and cultivate diverse interests. Today, I am thrilled to be here with County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, opening this center for the West End community to enjoy," stated Commissioner Francis Suarez.

The new community center includes a large multipurpose room, office, break room, fitness center, computer room, classrooms, restrooms, and storage. Thanks to a state of the art facility, the Parks and Recreation Department will be able to expand services to the community with active adult programming during the day, fitness room and aerobics class programming and expanded youth programs through after school and summer camp. With the addition of new walkways, a plaza and covered patio, park users can easily access the new community center from the existing pool area, and playground, and enjoy enhanced outdoor amenities.

Total construction cost for design and construction, totaled $2,448,189.00 comprised of funds from the Miami-Dade County General Obligation Bonds and Homeland Defense Bond Series 2 and 3. Ferguson Glasgow Schuster Soto served as the design architect and West Construction, Inc. served as the contractors.

After the Ribbon Cutting a free domino tournament will take place as well as activities for those young at heart to enjoy. To register for the tournament please call (305) 264-0341.
