The Testing and Validation Section is
responsible for initial skills testing and
screening of applicants to determine eligibility
for a position. We are also
responsible for all competitive examinations,
promotional examinations, and employment
interviews in the classified service. The
Section ensures valid examination and interview
procedures in accordance with the Federal
Uniform Guidelines for Employee Selection
Procedures, as well as compliance of test
construction and test development to other
applicable federal standards.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
All City of Miami classifications do not require assembled competitive examinations. There is not a single Civil Service Exam that an interested applicant can take to qualify for consideration for all jobs within the City of Miami. Because different jobs have different knowledge and skill sets, different selection tools must be utilized to ensure that the selection method is job-related, and to ensure that the employees hired have the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics needed to serve the citizens of our City.

November 10, 2011):
A MESSAGE TO CANDIDATES WHO TOOK THE
JUNE 2008 OR OCTOBER 2008 CITY OF MIAMI POLICE
OFFICER BASIC RECRUIT EXAMINATIONS
On May 7, 2009, a hiring freeze was
instituted by the City Manager. As a result, no
action was taken in the hiring process for the
Police Officer Basic Recruit classification. In
accordance with the City's Civil Service Rules
the names of all candidates who took the June
2008 Police Officer Basic Recruit exam remained
on the current eligibility register. On October
20, 2011, the City Manager lifted the hiring
freeze for Police Officer Basic Recruit. The
Miami Police Department (MPD) has resumed the
processing of candidates who earned a passing
score on the June 2008 Police Officer Basic
Recruit exam. After MPD has completed processing
candidates from the June 2008 exam
administration, the eligibility register from
the June 2008 exam will be terminated, and the
Department of Human Resources will establish an
eligibility register from the October 2008 exam.
After the October 2008 eligibility register is
established, candidates who completed all parts
of the examination may view their results online
at www.miamigov.com/employment, or pick up their
yellow eligibility card from the Testing and
Validation Section of the Department of Human
Resources, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM - 4:30
PM, excluding legal holidays (444 SW 2nd Avenue,
Suite 746, Miami FL 33130; 305-416-2011.)
This message will only be updated after new
information is available. If you check back and
this message is the same, please understand that
the situation remains as stated above.
If you have changed your address or telephone
