The residential community of Allapattah, as well as the people who work
here, reflect the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual diversity of the area. It is a working class neighborhood. Housing, including high-rises, condominiums, and single family homes are generally moderately priced. There is also a significant amount of housing designed for the elderly. Approximately 5,000 affordable housing units will be developed within the next three years, which will have an impact on the services provided to the neighbors in the area.
Santa Clara, Comstac, Melrose, Curtis Park,
Civic Center and Jackson are Allapattah's
sub-neighborhoods. Major commercial corridors also serve
as sub districts including: NW 7th Avenue, NW 27th
Avenue, NW 36th Street, and NW 20th Street.
